一、The types and application area of magnetic separator

The wet type permanent-magnetic cylindrical separator is a common magnetic separator that can be widely used in iron ore separation. It is suitable for separating strong magnetic minerals. Magnetic separator can be divided into three types according to trough’s different structure; they are CTS, CTN and CTB.

The input particle sizes for these three kinds of separators are as follows:

Particle size for CTS≤6mm

Particle size for CTN≤1.5mm

Particle size for CTB≤0.5mm

CTS type separator has big processing capacity and suitable for the coarse separate and fine separate for the strong magnetic material with big particle sizes. It is possible that several machines work in series. When using the CTS separator and feeding ore quantity is big, magnetic ore particles can be lost in the gangue and then the operation management must be strengthened and keep the low ore slurry quantity.

CTN type magnetic separator is suitable for coarse and sweep separation of strong magnetic ore with small particle size. The recycle rate is high but the grade of fine ore is low. CTN type magnetic separator is not fit for processing big size materials because they are easily deposited and jam separating area.

High quality fine metal ore can be got by using semi-CTB type magnetic separator and high recycle rate can also be reached. Then this kind of machine is widely used in the productive practice. It applies for processing coarse and fine separate with the ore particle size under 0.5mm. Multiple sweep and fine separate can be realized through using machines’ parallel connection and in series.

二、The basic structure of magnetic separator

The wet type permanent-magnetic cylindrical separator is mainly composed of cylinder, magnetic system, and trough transmission part.

The cylinder is welded by 2-3mm stainless plate, and the ending covers are cast AL pieces. The two parts are connected with stainless screws and cylinder. The motor drives cylinder and moves circularly through gearbox. The magnetic system which is equipped inside cylinder is an open style. The magnet is fixed on the foundation plate of field yoke by stainless screws. The shaft of field yoke stretches out of cylinder and connecting levers are fixed at the end of shaft. Magnetic system obliquity can be adjusted by tripping connecting levers and the obliquity can be fixed after adjusting well. The working area of trough is made of stainless plate. Machine frame and other parts of trough are welded by ordinary steel.

三、Working principle of magnetic separator

After the ore slurry running into the trough through ore box and effected by the feeding ore water pipe, the ore particles can enter into the ore feeding area in trough. The magnetic ore particles can form‘magnet group’ or ‘magnet chain’by magnetic field’s affect. All the ‘magnet group’ or ‘magnet chain’moves to magnetic poles because of magnetic force in the ore slurry and then they can be attached to the cylinder. Since the polarity of magnetic poles are arrayed alternately and fixed tightly when working, when ‘magnet group’ or ‘magnet chain’ turning with the cylinder, the non magnetic materials, such as matrix which are mixed with ‘magnet group’ or ‘magnet chain’ will drop down during the rolling process. Eventually, the ‘magnet group’ or ‘magnet chain’ attached to the cylinder surface are fine ore. When the fine ore turn to the weakest place of magnetic system in the cylinder, it will be pushed to the fine ore trough by the water coming from unload-ore pipe. Non magnetic or weak magnetic ore are left in the ore slurry and then discharged out of the trough, these ore are the gangue. Some magnetic ore can be recycled by putting the gangue in magnetic separator again and then the recycle rate can be increased much. The fine ore can pass through the magnetic separator again and the matrix which mixing with the fine ore can be wiped out to upgrade the purity of fine ore.
