1. Description of Basalt:

Basalt, the fundamental component of oceanic crust, is a kind of basic volcanic rock. It has three common colors: black, black brown and dark green. The main constituents of basalt are silicon dioxide, aluminum oxide, ferric oxide, calcium oxide and magnesium oxide(a little bit of potassium oxide and sodium oxide), among which the content of silicon dioxide accounts for 40%-50%.

2.Applications of Basalt:

Basalt of small pieces is a kind of favorable, high-quality material for buildings and roads. It is the best building material used in construction projects such as highway, railway, ports, wharves and airfield runways. It has many advantages like high compressive strength, low crushing value, poor electrical conductivity, good abrasion resistance, low water absorption, high corrosion resistance and high adhesion to asphalt. Basalt is of great importance to the development of railage and highway transport industry.

In this process, the choice of crushers is of great importance. It will influence the particle size of the finished products, the production and the efficiency. Here we choose jaw crushers as the primary crushers and impact crushers as the secondary crushers.

1. Coarse Crushing: Large lumps of basalt is conveyed to the jaw crusher for coarse crushing. Then the crushed materials are screened by the vibrating screen according to different sizes. Afterwards, they are sent to the impact crusher for secondary crushing by the belt conveyor.

2. Secondary Crushing: The materials processed by the jaw crusher are then sent to the impact crusher for secondary crushing. The basalt is crushed into smaller pieces.

3. Sand Making: The materials processed by the impact crusher are then delivered to the vertical shaft impact crusher for fine crushing and shaping. A sand washer is needed if the basalt is required to be clean.

Notes for basalt sand production plant:

Basalt is a kind of material with high hardness and high content of silica. So it is a little difficult to crush basalt, resulting to the high costs. Reasonable design for the crushing process is essential. Another key point is to take investment costs and production costs into consideration to achieve cost savings. What’s more, the sand making process causes serious wear to the jaw plate, blow bar and impact plate. In order to protect these parts better, laminating process is encouraged here, which means that the selection of machines is also very important.
